How to price massage therapy services

A 60-minute massage is never really 60 minutes of your time. Intake, room turnover, and laundry add to every session. This calculator prices each session length and add-on from your real time and costs, then produces a massage price menu for your room, website, or booking page.

Session plus turnover
Count intake, changing the table, and cleaning. A 60-minute session often takes 75 minutes of your day.
Physical limits
Most therapists can only do a few deep sessions a day. Price so a realistic day pays you well.
Supplies and laundry
Linens, oils, and hot stones are real per-session costs.
Add-ons and packages
Aromatherapy, hot stones, and cupping are popular upgrades. Packages encourage regular visits.

The formula behind the calculator

Cost = (hours × your hourly pay) + supplies + travel. Price = cost × (1 + overhead) ÷ (1 − margin), rounded up to the nearest $5 (or $1 under $20). Add-ons skip the travel and setup charge, since they ride along with a main service. Every input is yours to change, so you can see exactly how each assumption moves your prices.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a massage therapist charge?

Price each session length from total time including turnover, your target hourly pay, supplies, and overhead such as rent and insurance, then add margin.

Should deep tissue cost more?

Many therapists charge more for deep tissue because it is more physically demanding and limits how many sessions you can do in a day.

Do I need a license to offer massage?

In most US states, yes. Licensing rules vary, so check your state board. This tool helps with pricing only.
